Swimming: the Sport / Swim Parents Role / Frequently Asked Questions

Swim Meet Information / Concern Resolution / Practice / Parent Board

You want the best for your kids, right? Swimming is probably the best all-around exercise available. Our team is family-oriented. Our focus is to have fun as well as become excellent swimmers. We have top-notch coaches who love kids and swimming. And we have a pretty neat group of parents too!

This is a great way to instill in your kids a lifelong interest in personal fitness. It teaches them teamwork, shows them the value of hard work, gives them mental and physical stamina and provides a real alternative to the incredible number of other distractions kids are exposed to today. It's also a great family activity. The swim meets are fun get-togethers with other parents and kids. Not to mention that it's a great way for you to be more directly involved in your kids daily life. It gives you something in common to talk about.

Coach-Parent Communication:

  • The Head Coach encourage parents to call or email with questions they may have.

  • Workout is not the time to talk to the coaches. It is not fair to the swimmers.

  • Before or after workout is okay, except when swimmers are in need of attention.

  • At registration we will have coaches present for questions and answers.

Coach-Swimmer Communication:

  • Feedback is given to the athletes daily: as a group and as individuals.

  • Once a swimmer understands the expectations that are given, he or she should fulfill them.

  • We cannot make a swimmer do anything.

  • Basic skills are taught the same throughout the Richfield program.

  • Additional skills are taught as swimmers master the basics and progress throughout the program.

Swim Meets are where athletes get important feedback.

  • In the early season, swimmers are taught race strategies before an event and given feedback after the event.

  • By the end of the season, swimmers are prepared to swim the race strategy that best fits their goals and abilities.

As role models for the Richfield athletes, we strive to deal with swimmers differently depending on their needs and personality. As a coaching staff we encourage swimmers to ask questions before, during, or after workouts.
